Bill McRaven, who is a retired US Navy admiral and served on the US Special Operations Command, gave a commencement speech this past year at University of Austin, Texas, that I take with me where ever I go. He said that during SEAL training there was always a bell. A brass bell that hung in the center of the compound for all students to see. He and other students were told that all you have to do to quit was Ring the bell. If you wanted the 5am wake up calls to stop, Ring the bell. If you no longer wanted to do the freezing cold swims and you wanted them to stop, Ring the bell. If you no longer wanted to do the obstacle courses or runs, Ring the bell. But what he told the students next is something of great value that we all need in this world. Especially when things get tough, when we want to give up and throw in the towel. When we cant possibly think of life getting harder.... But if you want to change the world, never, ever, EVER, ring the bell. Never give up on your life, your dreams and most importantly, yourself. Never ring the bell. Happy Monday!
