Bill To Deny Paying Statutory Members Board Fees Introduced At Capitol In the wake of budgetary shortfall in the 2012/2013 fiscal envelop, Nimba County Electoral District # 8 Representative, Larry P. Younquoi, has introduced a legislation to prohibit statutory members from receiving Board fees. Speaking to legislative reporters on Tuesday, September 10, 2013, Representative Younquoi said the paying of Board members is a waste of tax payers’ funding. According to him, statutory members on various public institutions boards are receiving monthly salaries and other benefits from government. He stated that the extra funds allocated monthly to board members can be used to implement several projects in slum and urban communities. The Nimba County Electoral District # 8 Legislator pointed out that some statutory board members have the oversight responsibility to regulate and supervise the activities of public entities. He claimed that Finance Minister Amara Konneh serves as Board member to seven institutions. The former senior staff of the Ministry of Planning & Economic Affairs said statutory board members need to provide voluntary services for the country and its people. He mentioned that the Public Financial Management (PMF), Public Procurement Concession Act (PPCC), and other anti corruption laws frowned on the waste of tax payers funds continuously. Representative Younquoi clarified that the new legislation is not intended to witch hunt statutory members of various boards, but to ensure that public funds are properly utilize and distributed to all Liberians and not few groups of people. He said transparency and accountability of tax payers’ and donor funds should be implemented on meaningful projects that will benefit all Liberians.
