Billabong National Interschool’s Championships Supported by Sport and Recreation South Africa and presented by Surfing South Africa North Beach, Durban, KZN Saturday 26 October 2013 Interschool Surfing Championships set to take centre stage at North Beach on Saturday Thirteen teams of surfers representing 10 schools from all parts of South Africa will be in action at Durban’s North Beach on Saturday in the 2013 Billabong National Interschool’s Surfing Championships. The event is presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted this year by the well organised KZN Schools Surfing League. Support from Sport and Recreation South Africa has ensured that the top school surf teams from both the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape have been able to make the journey to Durban for the event. Representing the Western Cape is Wynberg Boys High School while the Eastern Cape will be represented by the Jeffrey’s Bay based Nico Malan High School. Top KZN school Crawford has entered a High School team as well as a Junior side and a team made up entirely of girls. Northwood, another school famous for producing top surfers, has entered an A and a B Team. Surfers who will be in action on Saturday include recently crowned SA Under 17 Champion Teal Hogg (Crawford), SA Junior Team members Chanelle Botha and Mikey Venter ( Amanzimtoti), SA Development Academy team members Samke Cele and Sne Makhuba (both South Beach) as well as a host of surfers who have represented their provinces at the recent SA Junior Surfing Championships in Jeffrey’s Bay. The heats and format for the event are available on surfingsouthafrica.co.za The Billabong National Interschool’s Championships is a Surfing South Africa tournament sponsored by Billabong and supported by Sport and Recreation South Africa. Surfing South Africa is the organization recognized by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as the governing body for the sport. Surfing South Africa is a member of the International Surfing Association (ISA).
