Billy Griffin Wins Memorial Competition Last weekend really was a superb golfing weekend with wall to wall sunshine in Dunfanaghy and the course was packed with golfers enjoying the settled conditions after the summer. The Brian McGinley Memorial GOY Stroke was held in Dunfanaghy on Sunday and a super day it was with only a bit of wind to contend with but hey we Dunfanaghy stalwarts are use to a bit of wind in our life. And it was in these conditions that Billy Griffin just steadily nursed his way round the course just managing to push Nigel Doherty into second place. Dunfanaghy are now doing a Ryder Cup Competition Ladies & Gents Commences 1st September 2013 until 31st May 2014 Four Person Team Event Entry Fee: €15 Visitor/€7.50 Member Monthly winners qualify for final. Grand Final set for the 22nd June 2014 4 x €500 Ryder Cup Package Includes Tickets* (for overall winners) The first in the series has been completed and the team of Ian McDaid, Ray Sheerin, Sean Culleton and Pauric Murphy have qualified for the September competition and go through to the final next June. This team had a qualifying score of 84 pts so you all know now what is needed. The Wednesday open this week was won by Martin O’Reilly with 37 pts with second place being taken by Sean Diver on 36 pts. Saturday was an eventful day with Dunfanaghy being away to Cloughaneely in the first round of the Gaeltacht Alliance. The outcome was 2.5 matches Dunfanaghy to 5.5 matches Cloughaneely. In Dunfanaghy it was a 4BBB and the team of Kevin James and Don Sheridan came up trumps again with a score of 45 pts. Freddie Stewart and Tony Griffin took second place on BOT with 44 pts. Sunday was a GOY Stroke competition and the course was packed. But it was the superb play of Billy Griffin that won the day with finish with a super score of 65 net. Nigel Doherty also played well, fell away a bit on the back four, but still managed a respectable 66 net. Gross was won by John Hanna on 75 net and Colin Higgs picked up third on BOT with a score of 69 net. RESULTS: Ryder Cup Comp.
