Billy McDonald There are no words to describe how I am feeling right now. Steve gave me my first EMS job at Metropolitan Ambulance and First Aid Corps. Steve always took care of me while I worked there and after. I never hesitated to do anything Steve ever asked of me. Perp, take a ride with the Squirrel to Long Island, I need you guys to handle something! I didnt realize it then, but Steve tasked me the way he did because he trusted me and had faith in me. We all have faults and I was not innocent. I would always run to daddy when I wanted something. I remember once I wanted the Nextel i1000, which was like $400 and only executives were getting them. I told Amy Yuen Camacho I wanted one and we walked right in to Steves office and asked. Steve picked up the phone, called Cousin Joe, and by the time I was back down the hall at Cousin Joes office the Nextel was ready. I remember Steve calling me to his office in fall of 1998 And giving me a gold AmEx Credit card. He asked me to get as large of a Ryder truck As I could. We drove to Ditmars Blvd in Queens by Rikers Island and next thing I knew we were at the offices of Transcare. We we told to separate the good from the bad and bring it back to Brooklyn. I remember he only sent a few of us. We were the can do or will do team and Steve knew it. We were the first ones on the 911 units, did Security at the parties, and never questioned anything Car 2 said. I share a birthday with Steves triplets and he found this out one day while playing with the flight simulator. He immediately wrote it on his calendar and has never forgotten it. Steve would contact me format birthday each year, and I for his. After all of that the time that made me see Steve truly trusted me was when he was on an EMS call with Hatzolah and I on 33U (working for him at the time) There were two critical patients In his ambulance and he had a new Hatzolah medic with him. He said you out, Perp in! He explained the other medic was new. I said Steve, so am I! He said Something I will never forget. He said you are Metropolitan, will always be, and I trust you. I know what youre capable of Perp! That has stayed with me always. I never had a negative word to say about Steve, but I Always spent time defending him to those who didnt know him. I consider myself one of the many lucky ones who not only knew him and worked for him, but that I was someone who had his trust and he new I was loyal to him over all else, even after I didnt work for his ambulance business anymore. Steve, I will always remember what you taught me and what an amazing man you were. Loyalty above all else. Say hi to those who have passed.
