Biological Hazard in Cayman Islands on Friday, 27 June, 2014 Chikungunya The first suspected case of chikungunya is being investigated in Cayman. Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kiran Kumar confirmed a blood sample was sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) yesterday (25 June) to test for chikungunya and dengue. A reseident showed symptoms consistent with chikungunya after travelling to a country where the virus has broken out, and blood was drawn thereafter. Cases of the virus have been confirmed in 24 countries in the Caribbean. The total number of confirmed cases has reached 4,906.
