Bird In A Cage K.R.S.Murthy I am a bird in a cage, With clipped wings, flightless, Stolen from mother nature Your pet in prison, a pride catch, caught innocent, A show case among your dead wood furniture. Conceived in your mind Between romantic interludes With clouds of gray and white, Floating above the roof tops, Towering over snow clad mountains, Holding hands as frozen dancers, Under the boundless blue sky, With a chilling sensation descend drizzling droplets, Pouring rain, heavy showers, Turning into streaming rivers, Diving down the cliffs, jetting water sprays and misting clouds To the hungry woods and wetlands, Trees sheltering the little plants, And the bees, in love with the flowers. Closed eyes, led by instinct Inhaled the breeze, fresh, soothing, Conceived by romance with nature, I built a fantasy palace of free flight, Severing alphabet soup shackles Let loose from the jail of poetictradition, The rhyme drill, the meter walls, Feeding the grammar poison, drinking line juice. No more ! Feed me no more artificial ingredients. But let me fly in a cosmic wonderland
