Bird Totems.... These are 2 of my favourites The Kingfisher..... Also known as the Halycon, the Kingfisher is a long-time symbol of peace and prosperity. It has many legends and superstitions surrounding it with many originating in ancient Greece. It is said the Kingfisher is the promise of abundance, of new warmth, prosperity and love that is about to unfold within your life. The Kingfishers are beloved by sea-nymphs (in Greek mythology, nymphs are spirits of nature, and they are minor female deities and the protectors of springs, mountains, and rivers). The Hummingbird.... The remarkable hummingbirds truly are ‘God’s tiny miracle.’The hummingbird has powerful religious and spiritual significance. A symbol of love, joy, and beauty. Since the hummingbird is able to fly backwards, it teaches you that you can look back on your past. But, this bird also teaches that you must not dwell on your past; you need to move forward. When you observe the hummingbird hovering over flowers while drinking nectar, you learn that you should savour each moment, and appreciate the things you love. Hummingbird – Half Bird, Half Gem When the mild gold stars flower out, As the summer gloaming goes, A dim shape quivers about Some sweet rich heart of a rose. Then you, by thoughts of it stirred, Still dreamily question them: “Is it a gem, half bird, Or is it a bird, half gem ?” .....Edgar Fawcett. I am yet to be privileged to see a hummingbird in the wild, we dont have them in the UK, its on my bucket list. Rafferty :)
