Birkdale Ski Team become English Champions 13/10/2014 Congratulations to the Birkdale Ski team who won the ESSKIA (English Schools Ski Association) National finals to become National Dry Slope Ski Champions at U19 level at Norwich last Saturday. The last time that this was won by Birkdale School was 1999 so this is a tremendous achievement by the boys. The weekend was a double triumph because since the team had previously qualified for the National Open competition held the next day, they won this outright as well. They now go through to the British Finals in Edinburgh. The team of Cameron Brown (L6), Sam Carson (Y10), Jacob Hallett (Y10) and William Oakley (Y7) are pictured with the Trophy and Medals. Jacob and Cameron have both been selected for the English Development squad with Cameron being selected to race last May as part of the UK team. Cameron has already skied for the International Ski Federation and Sam and Jacob have both also been selected for the Federation this year. The success of the team is largely thanks to the support of the Peak Performance Ski team and their coach Mr Peter Cutler. The boys regularly take part in competitions up and down the country and it is this dedication that has given them the well-deserved success they achieved over the weekend.
