“Birthday Blessings” Birthdays are one of lifes milestones that can inspire all kinds of contemplation and observation. Each year, the month of September always gives me pause to reflect. Zachary would have been 34 this Wednesday. This is the ninth birthday without him. Dan and I attended a wedding last month. There was a young man in attendance who graduated with Zack. As I watched that handsome man holding his child, I found myself choking back the tears. It’s as if the breath had been knocked out of me. What might Zachary be doing? Would he be holding a child? Most of the time, I can isolate those emotions and not speculate – avoiding the “what might have been” thoughts. It’s just not productive thinking. Sometimes I am blindsided by those emotions and buckle under. I think it’s only natural, but… it’s never easy. Abraham Lincoln once said, And in the end, its not the years in your life that count. Its the life in your years. Zachary put a whole lot of life in his years. It made a difference that he lived! It is my prayer that we can make a difference, too. This week, in honor of his birthday, Amazon is having a promotion of the Kindle edition of See You In a Minute ( amazon/See-You-Minute-Mothers-Journey-ebook/dp/B00A3H57CG ). The book will be discounted from today through September 22. These blessings do allow others to live on through him, as all profits from book sales are donated to scholarships for future musicians. Dan and I make a personal contribution to Zachary’s Scholarship annually on his birthday. For the second year, I will also able to give a donation from the sales of See You In a Minute.
