Bismillah. Regarding the current political situation (which actually quite amuses me), I was intrigued by Imran Khan and Tahir-ul-Qadris movements to find out what our religion has to say about this. So I consulted my beloved teacher, Ustaadh Khaleel ur Rehman Chishti, for a scholarly opinion. So heres what I understood from that: First of all, the point to note here is that this current system is not designed by any of the Sharifs. It has actually been formulated, over time, through our populations mutual consent, including that of the Ullemaas of all sects (referring, for eg, to the constitution here). Therefore, bringing about a change in the running order would also require a wide range of acceptability, which should include the approval of the major portion of the masses (At least 50% of them), their intellectuals and their political movements. However, Imran Khan and his party do not have that range of acceptability and support, not by a long shot. Hence, their demands and claims do not hold solid grounds, and so their efforts in bringing down a working government are utterly inappropriate. In fact, according to the teachings of Islaam, illegitimately bringing down a working government is actually regarded as Major Sin. Islamicly, the conditions that need to be fulfilled before it becomes eligible to bring down a working government through force are: 1- When we have an organized backing (through a disciplined movement - a one that holds proper infrastructure and has already fulfilled its basics) of a number of followers that comfortably exceeds the number of opponents, and that we are completely confident regarding the support of the masses (Unlike the case when Imam Hussein [RA] was betrayed by the Koofees, even after their assurance to pledge him full support), and the chances of a chaotic situation leading from our actions is minimal. And that we are completely sure that after the use of force, we shall have the law and order situation under our complete control, and that it leads to an emergence of a form of governance that completely encompasses the very Socio-Economic and Political Justice of Islaam. 2- When the Government is not even allowing us to pray five times. 3- When we see the Government is involved in BUWAAH KUFR (i.e. the government is clear and blatant in its acting and pledging on Kufr with its word and action). Please note that, according to Islaam, ALL of the above three conditions are to be fulfilled prior to ANY initiation of an attempt to overthrow a working government. As much as that, even if the situation qualifies for the last two conditions but not the first one, the act (of overthrowing the government) would still remain unlawful. As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rehmatullaah.
