Black Bear Saga Part II: Revenge of the Bear Well, technically - TopicsExpress

Black Bear Saga Part II: Revenge of the Bear Well, technically the bear didn’t have anything to do with what happened this time, but the pick up truck was black. Some people would argue that this could not be a coincidence. Dean Koontz or Stephen King could create an elaborate and scary account of how the black forces of the world had aligned against me and my motor vehicle activity. I, being far less creative, will just accredit it to the old adage, “If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.” As you may know, my personal car is in the body shop having the driver’s side door replaced because of my recent “When Wild Animals Attack [Cars]” experience. My wonderful insurance company was kind enough to supply me with a rental car while my own was being repaired…body work, paint, bear hair removal, that sort of thing. This morning I left home for my drive to work in my shiny and new rental car thinking that all was right with the world. I was only slightly irritated when I saw that several town vehicles and workers were blocking the street ahead of me as they were performing hedge/tree trimming maintenance along the road. As I approached the work area a black blur flew at the side of my soon to be not shiny and new rental car. If I had had time to think about it, I may have feared that it was the black bear back to seek revenge or finish the job he started only a couple of weeks ago (had this been a Koontz or King story I would have indeed had time to think about it and perhaps entered some sort of space-time continuum to explore the possibility in depth). Being that it was reality and not a sci-fi novel; the black blur quickly became the tail gate of the pick up truck that was on a certain collision course with me and my rental car. The no longer shiny and new rental car and I were pushed to the edge of the road and nearly over the hill! I was really shaken when I tried to exit the rental car gone bad and realized that the driver’s door was stuck. I wrestled with the door a bit and finally got it open and got myself out of the car. Once again, after inspection, the black menace sustained far less damage than me and my car. Only the trailer hitch and bumper of the black pick up were injured and the teenage driver was unhurt (and having an emotional fit in true teenage drama style, but seeming to enjoy it). My lovely rental car now sits awaiting the tow truck, a mere shadow of its former self. I have just returned from the ER were I was told I will live but will have a few rough days. This too I will grin and bear, and I will enjoy a couple of days of drug induced hibernation thanks to the ER Doc’s prescription pad!
