Black & White - Todays featured Artist is Pi Uzma Mirza: Artist statement: My art is a solidifying melody glorifying my Architect, G_d-an ‘Ode’ of an Islamic calligraphy, like a lyrical recital symphony score of a heart becoming a soul content (Mutamaina) for its journey home.” Essentially, my art is like an ‘Ode’ to G_d through the understanding and recitational melody of the Qur’an and practice of all the prophets with the scholarship of interpretation in a contemporary context of today within the natural world environment. My art places the heart and G_d as the pivotal tool to realize that all the bounties of the universe are for all people not for a few to hoard nor those who position their self as experts exploiting their self. My art has a greater purpose, which is to function as a tool of vicegerency and stewardship serving society and the environment as a helping hand building a sustainable and green world with the recital of the Artisan G_d, or as I call, ‘my architect’; as a vital tool to realize our hearts, our creative strengths, our unified diversity and our humanity in our journeys, with barak’ah (blessing) and compassion, where, as a tool, a percentage or all of proceeds of my art is donated to The Pen and Inkpot Foundation or other charitys to help build charitable scholarships, buildings and send relief within the core values of the founder. The influences of my Islamic art has been many, both western and eastern, alongside a scholarly study of the Qur’an through contemporary accepted interpretations within the entire body of Islamic spirituality (inner) and outward practice: the Ehsan, Iman and Islam, where the inner and outer are both vital ingredients to balance, as related in Quran and the Hadith Qudsi, with most importantly, my direct relation to G_d teaching me through my hand and life within the context of our contemporary world of today. Also being a professional Architect, I view my art complementing my architecture and vice versa, aloof from the crime of ornament, by realizing the importance of giving to the weak, the poor, the sick, the orphan and women in society which are all the building of sadaq’ah jarias as stewards of G_d, in order to help build a more equitable world and self.
