Black meets Pacquiao By Robbie Pangilinan Multi-titled Talk ‘N Text coach Norman Black recently conducted the Skil’s basketball clinic with hundreds of enthusiastic youngsters in Southern Mindanao, where he also met for the first time, Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao. The eight-division world boxing champion invited the coach to his GenSan house for dinner. “It’s my first time to meet Pacquiao. It was a great pleasure to meet him. I commend his hospitality,” said Black, who will coach the Meralco Bolts in the upcoming PBA All-Filipino Conference on October 19. Pacquiao will also play as playing coach of PBA newcomer Kia Motors. “I told Manny good luck on his career at the PBA. I wish him well,” he added. Black is in GenSan as the goodwill ambassador of Skil, one of the world’s leading power tools, in a mission not only to teach children the basketball fundamentals but also “to demonstrate the values of sportsmanship, confidence, pride and determination at our clinics.” “It has been my advocacy for 36 years to teach basketball and be a positive role model for these kids,” said the latest member of the PBA’s 500-win club. “Gensan is really a very warm city, they love basketball,” said Coach Norman who is in General Santos City for the sixth time. More than 400 fans mobbed Coach Norman in his two-day stay at the city. Thirty kids joined the basketball clinic at the KCC Mall. Bosch Marketing Supervisor Marie Faller announced that “we are happy to extend coach Norman Black’s contract as SKIL endorser for two more years to sustain and continue our fruitful and productive partnership.” Not too many people are aware that off the court, Black’s major hobby is woodwork and carpentry, using Skil power tools made by Bosch in crafting his pieces long before he became the brand’s product endorser.
