Black-on-Black crime is NOT the real issue, and Bob Wilson here knows it. But like most white Americans, he cant face his own culpability when it comes to systematic racist violence. Heres what I wrote to him in response: Mr. Wilson: Black people INVENTED the term black-on-black crime. We have been having this conversation in our community for the better part of fifty years, and the fact that you didnt know this before speaks volumes about your lack of engagement with Black communities. Anyone whos studied Black communities for any length of time knows that so-called black-on-black crime is a byproduct of systematic economic and political subjugation by the state. When you deprive a group of people of the basic necessities of life, isolate them in racially and economically segregated neighborhoods, then use the violence of police and prisons as a tool of social control against them, of course they will turn their anger and frustration on each other. But of course you dont care about Black folks killing each other, Mr. Wilson. Your concern is an obvious red herring. You just want to distract us from the actual issue: The fact that most white Americans gleefully outsource their racist violence to the state.
