Blackie update (apologies for the long post) Blackie the puppy - TopicsExpress

Blackie update (apologies for the long post) Blackie the puppy was brought to Calcutta yesterday (Sunday). After a thorough examination, Dr. Subir Bhattacharya decided against immediate surgery and has done a special kind of ‘pressure bandage’ which will be changed every week for 3 weeks – this is to counter the massive femur dislocation. After 3 weeks, another X-ray will be done and we will try to use a plate to fix his ankle fracture. Blackie went back with his bandaged leg (sorry I don’t have a picture of the bandage, my phone conked off as usual). To tell you guys a little bit about Blackie and the Shantiniketan story. Blackie is actually under the care of a Shantiniketan based NGO called Moitri Chetana (no connection to Calcutta or Shantiniketan Moitri Clinics). This NGO was set up by a lady called Tutul Ray, passionate about animal welfare. She had good contacts and was doing a great job. Unfortunately for her family, friends and all the animals in Shantiniketan, she died in a car accident a year and a half back. Since then, the NGO is being managed by her husband Bratin Sinha (who has a construction business which funds the NGO) and school-going son Sayan who as you can imagine, are floundering. My friend Anindita and I are trying to help them as much as we can. Anindita goes to Shantiniketan for work almost every weekend, so she helps out with time and medicines as much as she can. I have decided to help raise funds and arrange treatment for special cases which have to be brought to Calcutta for treatment. In this respect, I am overwhelmingly grateful to all of you for your money, concern and blessings (I am not religious, but I believe in the power of good thoughts). Moitri Chetana has 12 beautiful kennels and 2 very dedicated paravets (Jagganth da is the man in-charge, he came down with Blackie despite a very ill grandmother who passed away last night). I just wanted everyone to know exactly where your money is going as total transparency is very important. Also, we have raised more than enough for Blackie, so no more funds are needed for her for the next few months :) Love you all, and have a safe and happy Christmas.
