Blackpool recorded their first win of the season on Friday night when they defeated Rebels 3-0 at home in Shelley Road. Rebels have been having a good run this season and the loss was their first while in contrast, the Salt River side were desperate for the win as they are stuck at the bottom of the log and need to start collecting the points if they want to survive in the 3rd division after purchasing the franchise from Young Idols. FC Hout Bay picked up valuable 3 points when they travelled to Symphony Park where they defeated hosts, Bellstar 4-2. The FC Hout Bay is all about community and their hard work and passion is displayed on the park, not forgetting the crowd which usually tags along. The visitor’s Captain, Newton Constant scored the opener and his first goal of the season to inject the confidence in his team and record the positive result. Junction Rovers and Santos played to a 1 – 1 draw on Saturday in Heideveld in a game described as a bit of a dull affair. The home side suffered a loss on Sunday when they played Rebels who made amends for their loss against Salt River 2 days before. Junction lost out on the opportunity to record 6 points over the weekend which would have cemented them at the top spot. Battswood climbed 4 places to 5th when they narrowly beat Orient 3-2 at UCT Astro on Saturday. Orient staged a fight back to equalize with a few minutes to spare but Angelo Amos ensured the Battswood win when he scored deep into referee’s optional time. Orient encountered their 6th loss of the season and are now close to the wrong end of the log. Avendale hosted Bayhill United and the Mitchells Plain side finally recorded their 2nd win of the season. There is no short of ability in the Bayhill team and coach Jeff Isaacs will hope that this might be the moment they click as a unit. Avendale drop 3 places to 10th and will have to improve to ensure they don’t drop any further. Shockwaves secured their 4th spot when they drew 1-1 with Jumbo Giants who climbed 2 places to 6th with this result. Both sides have recorded fair results thus far but have higher expectations for their season and will be looking to improve as the season progresses. The highest profiled game of the weekend was no doubt the one which took place in Atlantis when Silver Spurs travelled to face old rivals Jomos Power. These two clubs share a history and good relationships which goes back since the early 2000s when both teams met in the old Toyota Super League. Jomos Power won promotion to the Castle League one year after Silver Spurs managed the feat. It was the home side which was victorious on the day winning 3-2. Spurs were down to 10 men early in the game but managed to lead 2-1 before the home side equalized and Eldrich Brandt head the winner before the final whistle. Heath lost another game this weekend and Coach Francois will be working hard to get his team back on winning ways and away from the bottom of the log. Riverside beat the Grassy Park side 2-0 therein keeping them in touch with the log leaders, Jomos Power. Rubin Jacobs and Clayton Jacobs scored for the home side
