From Joe Bailey of the A.I.A canberra, Australia. Sent: Thursday, 20 November 2014, 10:05 Subject: Indian PM On Anglo-Indian Contribution to Australia 64 Dear Friends Below is a link to an improvised speech by India s PM: Narendra Modi on Monday 17th November 2014 at the Allphones Arena, Olympic Park, Sydney. The whole entertainment and speech in Hindi with the English translation is on YouTube and lasts 3 hours, 23 minutes and 12 seconds. However, just fast forward to 2 hours and 22 minutes and at this point the Indian PM refers to Eric Pearce the Olympian/Hockey Player and WA State Bureaucrat, Rex Sellers Australias spin bowler from South Australia in the 60s and Stuart Clark - Australias speedster/swing bowler and NSWs Captain. Rex Sellers is the brother of Basil Sellers. Basil was listed in the Business Review Weekly’s annual compilation of Australia ’s 200 richest people until he went to London and became an expatriate Australian. There are a few more A-Is worth a mention that did not appear in the Indian PMs speech such as: Merv Adams Australia’s former hockey Coach, Paul Gaudoin Australia’s former hockey Captain and current Coach, The 1956 Australian hockey team - half the team were A-Is: Kevin Carton, Denis Kemp, Ray Whiteside, the 3 Pearce brothers Mel, Eric And Gordon, and Fred Brown the Coach. Also bodybuilder Manfred Hamilton Mr Universe (Masters), Terry Walsh the former Australian Olympian born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, India’s Hockey Head Coach (not sure if still current) whom I had met in Canberra when he was the Hockey Coach of Australia. I was privileged to have been invited by the High Commissioner of India along with about 250 others all over Australia to meet the Indian PM at the Grand Ballroom attached to the Allphones Arena which I did. Later about 17,000 Indians attended the PMs speech at the Allphones Arena. It was open to all on a first come first serve basis by applying online for a free entry pass. I did not attend the speech having to return to Canberra as I was invited by Alex Hawke MP, Member for Mitchell, NSW and Leader of the Australia/India Friendship Australia’s Parliament to attend the Indian PMs speech to both Houses of Parliament in Canberra the next morning.
