Blessed Lammas Day to all.. its time to start baking~ Let me elaborate to those who might not know what I am talking about. Lughnasadh (also spelled Lughnasa) or known as Lammas is the festival that marks the end of summer growth and the beginning of the autumn harvest. Lughnasadh (or Lughnasa) is Irish Gaelic and means “the nasad (games, or an assembly) of Lugh. It was a festival that lasted anywhere from two to four weeks in length and began around the end of July. It was celebrated in various ways throughout the Celtic world which included Britain, Ireland, Gaul and possibly northern Spain. It was a celebration of the beginning of the harvest. Lammas is from the Anglo-Saxon hleaf-mass (leaf mass), the Feast of the First Fruits. It was marked by the first harvest of the grain, its gathering, milling and baking into loafs of bread. Freshly baked bread and lamb were the traditional festival foods.
