Blogger Andy Gill is right. This post raises a very good question: What constitutes the essential/necessary core (theologically) of being an evangelical Protestant? (At least in the best and historic use of the term evangelical since the word is clearly rooted in the 18th and 19th century revival movements.) The only one of the six examples he uses here that could be challenge, though I happen to agree with it, is Luthers view of Scripture. It is fair to say he held a very high view of the Bible but he did not use the term inerrancy since it was not even used in his time. Some excellent scholars have tried to show how his view lines up with modern inerrancy doctrine but I find their argument stretched very thin. The other five examples are all clearly correct so far as I know. The problem is this: How do you ban someone from evangelicalism? :-)
