Blood Donors Ugently Needed In Niverville And Steinbach People - TopicsExpress

Blood Donors Ugently Needed In Niverville And Steinbach People here in the southeast have two opportunities in the next two weeks to help Canadian Blood Services replenish its shortage of blood. Pamela Mullins, Director of Donor Relations for Manitoba, says its the first time since 2008 that the blood supply has been this critically low. She asks all possible donors to help them. All blood donors are needed but, in particular, we asking those with Type O and A blood to come out. This is an immediate need. Were asking people in communities across the country to come together to help save lives. We have had a much higher than expected cancellation and no-show rate at blood donor clinics throughout the summer months. We have put a lot of pressure on Canadas blood supply. Mullins says Canadian Blood Services currently has a less than three day inventory of blood supplies whereas the comfort level is a five to eight day supply. We regularly collect 17,000 units of blood per week and were not doing so right now. We need to be able to collect that and, on top of that, we are in the immediate need of 7,500 blood donations as well, to help replenish our lower than required inventory. Mullins is optimistic that people will come through based on what happened back in 2008 when they were in the same bind. There was a fabulous response at that time. We have a really great country full of very generous people who, when asked, stand up and they come in. In fact, one of the most common answers that I get, when speaking to people who do not give blood, is they say they dont give blood because they havent been asked. So Canadian Blood Services is officially asking you to donate. There is a blood donor clinic in Niverville Tuesday (tomorrow) from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Heritage Centre. And there will be a clinic in Steinbach next week on Thursday, October 16th.
