Blues pianist Walter Davis (Bluebird Records) died on this day in 1963 in St Louis at age 51. Davis was born in Grenada, MS. Davis was a St. Louis Blues pianist who was one of the more prolific of the pre-war Blues pianists. Davis recorded over 150 sides of his own and appeared as accompanist on countless others. Infuenced heavily by Leroy Carr, Davis often played and recorded with Henry Townsend. Davis suffered a stroke in the early 50s and turned to the ministry. He was still preaching at the time of his death in 1963. Check out Please Remember Me on EPM Musique, or Essential on Classic Blues. Davis` complete recorded works are available on 7 CDs on the Document label. youtu.be/z3wD2kov8FA
