But moderns, having long ago surrendered the ‘hard things’ of the Kingdom of God, have banned proclamations concerning successes in the ‘hard things’ of the Kingdom of God. Those daring to proclaim success in the ‘hard things’ of the Kingdom of God, things like actually listening to God and moving your family from your homeland and kin (Genesis 12), are quickly banished, labeled as braggarts, and finally ignored. Such is the fate of those who ‘boast’ in the community of faith… The problem with ‘boasting’ is the ‘self-glorification’ typically attached to the announcement of success in the ‘hard things’ of the Kingdom. Hence, Paul’s repeated references to ‘Christ in you’ (Colossians 1:27) and the power provided to all who embrace ‘Christ in you’. So Paul provides the footing for all ‘boasting’ in the community of faith, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). Nonetheless prudence demands great care in finding ‘boasting buddies’ as you trek deeper and deeper into the quest after the Serving King. The many, long mired in failure, frown sternly on those who dare to succeed in obedience to the voice of the King. But life needs a ‘boasting buddy’ or two if you are to succeed in the ‘hard things’ of the Kingdom of God, buddies who genuinely delight in your success, applaud your ‘doing’ through Him who strengthens. Most importantly, buddies find encouragement in the tales of your success. And yes, in the presence of the Serving King, all boasting is gone as our successes pales in the light of His success. But oh how the Serving King loves your tales of success in Him. Boast on…
