Bob Barker Rocking and Rolling with the Thunder in the Southern Ocean The Thunder was unable to lose the Bob Barker in the thick ice so they decided to try and lose them in rough seas by deliberately heading into a storm. They failed of course. The Bb Barker is a better sea vessel with better ice class plus longer ranger and superior speed. The Thunder is not going to get away. This pursuit is taking place in one of the most remote and hostile environments on the planet. The seas are extremely cold, the storms are vicious and the ice is a constant obstacle. Sea Shepherd has over a decade of experience in these waters and Captain Peter Hammaerstedt has eight years of Southern Ocean Navigation under his belt. Worldwide attention is now being focused on these outlaw toothfish poachers and where governments have refused to intervene, Sea Shepherd has proven to be effective. The two ships are now about 700 nautical miles south of Iles Crozet in the Indian Ocean. This me hearties is what we call the rolling seas.
