Bobby Keys...who had a hand in so much music that meant a lot personally. First exposure was probably from the copy of Delaney and Bonnie and Friends featuring Eric Clapton that my brother brought home from college. He was pictured on the back cover, walking and carrying equipment with the rest of that talented outfit. When Joe Cocker went out with Mad Dogs and Englishmen, he hired most of D&Bs band away from them including Bobby. So he was part of that historic tour as well as his more publicized musical links with the Stones on Sticky Fingers, Exile on Main Street and subsequent tours. Think of his famous solos on Brown Sugar and Cant You Hear Me Knocking. Saw him onstage with the Stones several times and up close and personal when he appeared with the fine local Stones cover band Hot Rocks several years ago at what used to be called Chicago City Limits in Schaumburg not far from a house I used to own there. And now hes gone too. RIP Bobby Keys. Check out this interview about how he met the Rolling Stones.
