Bodginchi Zatra I had 6 Rupees saved in my miller my father gave me seven Rupees and I went for Bodginchi Zatra..paying 35 paise bus fair. Those days , Zatra was a big attraction for us kids khatkhate , panpatti, paynala (devache photo) khelnni..some courageous boys would even play gadgado . My interest was watching Raghunath Kalangutekar, s Dashavatari natak..which would begin at midnight.,..the swoed fight..sreaming dialogues ..it was big fun. That year ..I must have been twelve..thirteen Rupees in my pocket I felt rich..I ate khatkhate..the popular sweet of those days made from joggery and coconut..it would always mess up the clothes but the taste was too tempting .. I went to the panpattecho gado looked around to see elders from my neighbourhood are not around . Bought a panpatti with extra chamman for the sweet taste..and kept on exploring the colourful zatra. I brought one paynel of Hanuman ...with mascular body..carrying Ram Laxman on his both shoulders .. Then my steps turned towards my favourite stall..book stall. I must have spent an hour irritating the shop keeper looking at every colorful story book.. पांडव प्रताप a novel on pandvas and Krishna took my all shopping interest away..I saw the price ..it was something like seven ..eight Rupees..one thing I remember clearly after buying that book , I had no money for my bus fare back home... I came home walking to Saligao alone at dawn ..shivering in the winter chill but very happy that I have spent my money on the book I like. Yesterday I remembered all that zatra fun of seventies era.. My kids were really happy ..now the khatkhate and भजी are replaced by Gobi Manchurian..Bhel puri..toys..Giant wheel..air castle ..we tried everything .. It was gift of memories for their growing years . Even like old times went behind the temple and told the old man resting next to the old baniyan tree बाबा मात्शे बरें गाराणे घाल. Tired Simran slept with all her gifts around the bed..hugging the soft teddy bear she brought from the zatra. So much has changed..but the enthusiasm of kids ..is same .. I was a pleasant evening for our family.
