Bolivian President #EvoMorales was signed by a Santa Cruz based #football club. Sports Boys, a team based in south-eastern province of Santa Cruz signed the 54 year old President to play midfield for USD213 per month, the minimum wage in the South American country. Morales continued to be a staunch supporter of the sport even after his ascension to presidency. In 2007 he appeared in a match played at 6000 meters above sea level to protest efforts to stop #Bolivia playing its international matches at high altitude. Mr Morales had made headlines in a 2010 match appearance by felling an opponent player in a team of political rivals by kneeing him in the groin, leading to The Guardian comment that the tactic may be more Vinnie Jones than Machiavelli, but it was no less effective for Evo Morales in asserting his presidential authority. The controversy circling this issue however did not discourage Morales from treasuring his dreams to become a professional footballer.
