Bonus story for today in honor of MLK Jr. day: Not to mention the rightly undeserving Oscar nominations, I really dont think MLK Jr. would appreciate the racism vs. whites going on with films such as Selma. The directors excuse saying its art doesnt cut it either. You cant use art to justify a revision of history and say that it has nothing to do with the real history because its art. In fact, on the contrary art MAGNIFIES the picture of history instead of distorting it through imagination. Im not a historian or a documentarian, and yet youre trying to tell us what the real history was behind the Selma March. Way to go there, Ava DuVernay. You dont have to be an actual historian to know the most basic fundamental facts, but the fact that you dont know them only disproves your argument about the black mans struggle that is largely non-existent today thanks be to such men as MLK Jr., who has preached many times a society without ANY racism. But we still have men of racial power who continue to undermine societys best interests and stand in the way of progress, just like as it was in MLK Jr.s day. A historically-accurate film would depict the hate groups being the true villains. You should watch Mississippi Burning, Ms. DuVernay, if you want a good film for artistic inspiration. Even whites who did not support or sympathize with the certain hate groups who oppressed blacks in that time were often cut off one way or the other. You can say that its Whiteys fault all you want when Whitey was coerced into going along with the oppression as it would be the more easiest and more expedient thing to do. Hate brings ruin to all races. I understand thats there are going to be differences between people, by culture, color, or creed, but a mutual hatred is a lose-lose deal for everyone.
