Book group to review ‘Nothing to Envy’ Area readers can share their opinions about “Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea” during book discussion meetings at 10 a.m. Nov. 12 and 5:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at the DeLand Regional Library. Award-winning journalist Barbara Demick depicts life under the most repressive totalitarian regime today — an Orwellian world that is not connected to the Internet, in which radio and television dials are welded to the one government station, and where displays of affection are punished. It’s a police state where informants are rewarded and an offhand remark can send a person to a gulag for life. The discussion groups are free and open to the public. For more information, call Susan Fichter at 386-822-6430, ext. 20763. The library is open seven days a week at 130 E. Howry Ave. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
