Books talk when no one’s listening. Can you hear them? Join acclaimed playwright and author Peggy Riley in depths of the The Beaney House of Art and Knowledges library for a wonderful writing workshop on 18th of September. Using prompts and questions, Peggy will help you create flash fiction and short stories inspired by the books you find on the shelves. Will you find adventure tales in the Travel section? Will Supernatural Fiction call to you? Can you coax new stories from biographies and histories, and what saucy stories do the cookery books have inside? What do the books have to say to one another, separated by their Dewey Decimals as they are? There will be plenty of support and ideas (and tea and biscuits) to let you write, edit, and read your pieces. In the evening, the pieces will be shared at a special library performance. And when you’re done, your words will live on, in the library and on a dedicated blog. This event is completely FREE and is suitable for writers of any level, form or genre aged 16 and over. All materials will be provided – you only need to bring your open mind – and maybe a notebook, to take home all your new ideas.
