Border Security stalwart Dan Patrick (R) BEAT his Democratic opponent among Hispanic men. AND according to NBC exit polls, he won an historic 46 percent of the overall Hispanic vote. As the national GOP basks in the glow of the its coast-to-coast thumping of the Democrats, a few important insights are emerging from the great state of Texas, both of which destroy the conventional wisdom from media and political elites on what the GOP “must do to win elections.” Since Romney’s 2012 loss, we have heard an endless loop of pro-immigration reform” Democrats and Republicans argue the GOP would be doomed IF it didn’t grant a pathway to citizenship for the nation’s 15,000,000+ illegal immigrants. We heard from many of these same people that “demographics is destiny.” A meaningless phrase if there ever was one. Republicans such as Sen. Jeff Session, we were told, with his enforcement-only approach to immigration, would dash any hope that the GOP could make inroads among Hispanic voters. Republicans would see the wrath of Hispanics in the midterms, we were warned, if they didn’t go along with the Senate immigration reform bill. After Tuesday, we see that all of these claims, these warnings, were FALSE, predicated on a total misrepresentation of the facts. Consider the resounding Texas victory of Dan Patrick, the tough-as-nails border enforcement advocate, for the critical position of Lieutenant Governor.
