Born in England in the late 50s, now living in Orkney, and have been for over 7 years. My vote will be a resounding Yes. Now dont get me wrong, I am no supporter of the SNP, nor will I ever be unless there is a serious change of mindset with the way the SNP treats the Northern Isles. I am voting Yes because it it the right thing to do. The No campaign have always linked their campaign to politics, with us on the Yes side, unfortunately doing likewise in the past months. The referendum in September should be, and in truth is, nothing what-so-ever to do with political parties of whatever colour. It is for the rights of the people to have self determination. Culturally differing peoples, lifestyles and customs, just having a common border should not mean that we are all automatically the same. I live on Orkney because I chose to live here. I wanted to live in a community with the self-same ideals I found here. It was not because I hated the land of my birth and wanted out, I just wanted to live somewhere better. Somewhere I could leave the car unlocked without fear of it being stolen. Somewhere where my door could be open to everyone. Somewhere that had an inner sense of being respectful of others, friendly to strangers, and above all, helpful and kind to the old, the sick and those in need. I found it here, and here I intend to stay. Let take the politics out of this campaign, let us reclaim it for the people for whom it should belong. The average Jo/Joe in the street, and say nuts to the professional politicians with a soapbox beneath their feet and an axe to grind in their hands ...
