Psalm 55:22, HCSB By Belinda Jolley A boy learned how to cast a line to land exactly where he wanted. Today the man finds himself in a small fishing boat in a sudden storm. He has to cast out the fishing supplies to keep the small boat afloat. The first of these casts is light, and the fisherman seems in control. The second cast is for survival. The fisherman has no control. He must rid his boat of everything that can cause him to sink and drown. David finds himself in this situation in Psalm 55. His close companion betrayed him. David couldn’t bear his burdens alone. He couldn’t fight the enemy in his own power. After pouring out his heart to God, David boldly proclaimed God’s power to sustain us. You can’t stand in your own power either. What keeps you from casting all your burdens on the Lord? Are you trying to cast out everything by yourself? Bail out the burdens!
