Born on this day in; 1890 – Agatha Christie, English author, poet (d. 1976) an English crime novelist, short story writer, and playwright. She also wrote six romances under the name Mary Westmacott, but she is best known for the 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections she wrote under her own name, most of which revolve around the investigations of such characters as Hercule Poirot, Miss Jane Marple and Tommy and Tuppence. She also wrote the worlds longest-running play, The Mousetrap. 1907 – Fay Wray, Canadian-American actress (d. 2004) The original scream queen, she starred in the film with which she is most identified, King Kong (1933). After the success of King Kong, Wray appeared in many major movie roles and on television, finishing her acting career in 1980. 1918 – Nipsey Russell, American comedian and actor (d. 2005) best known today for his appearances as a guest panelist on game shows from the 1960s through the 1990s, Dick Clark regularly referred to him as the poet laureate of television.
