Both teams had good wins over the weekend, here is the match report from the Orange game. Arriving at Blick Oval, The Orange team had their first game in almost a month and looked to get back into the swing of things. With a few key players unavailable, skipper, Vini, challenged the entire side to step up and fill the void. The toss was lost and the opposition decided to bat. We also welcomed back foundation player Gayan for his first game in two seasons. The opening bowlers did a fabulous job, asking plenty of questions of the batsmen, beating the bat on countless occasions as well as finding the edges, often flying just wide of the cordon. Samira snaring two and Ramesh one, unlucky not to have another. Hindol bowled in the crucial middle overs, playing a holding role as the opposition looked to get slightly away from us, pulling them back nicely with two wickets. Tevin also chimed in with three wickets. Samira and Ramesh both came back for second spells looking to wrap up the tail and did so, Samira ending with three and Ramesh with two for the inning, the opposition bowled out for 183. Slightly more than they should have but we went into the sheds confident that the score was well within our reach. Our innings started off shaky, losing a wicket in the second over and another soon after. Gunna and Vini came together in the middle and put on an invaluable 63 run partnership, putting away any loose bowling that was served up for them. Gunna eventually fell for a classy 36 bringing the ever-reliable partnership of ‘Vini & Prads’ together in the centre. The two put together a 59 run partnership which combined brute hitting with calculated singles. At drinks and the half way stage, the equation was 90 off the last twenty overs. Vini fell immediately after passing his half century as the pair went in search of a bonus point win. But with the score on 135, the job was far from over. Prads continued batting in his usual fashion but four quick wickets fell around him at the other end. Prads finished the job off with two overs to spare, giving Orange a two wicket victory.
