Boxing and Politics Carlos Molina 22-5(6) was supposed to defend his I.B.F Light Middleweight title (154lbs) against Undefeated Jermell Charlo 23-0(11) on the Saul Alvarez VS Alfredo Angulo Undercard but the fight was canceled. Golden Boy Promotions said that Molina was arrested 4 days or so before the fight, I say B.S as Carlos Molina was only going to get paid $300,000 Dollars and yes that would have been the highest purse Molina would have ever received. Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer decide after talking to Al Hayman that it wasnt good for business.Why? Golden Boy is hoping to get Saul Alvarez a fight against Carlos Molina for the I.B.F 154 LB title in the summer and they believe Alvarez will defeat Carlos Molina to become the new I.B.F Champion and then Alvarez will have one title defense In the fall possibly against Erislandy Lara. Golden Boy is hoping that Miguel Cotto defeats Sergio Martinez and becomes the W.B.C 160lb Champion so they could make a title VS title fight between Alvarez and Miguel Cotto on May,2015 in a Catchweight of 157lbs for the I.B.F 154LB title and the W.B.C 160LB Title as Saul Alvarez is out growing the 154lb division and what better for Alvarez to move up in weight then by fighting a older smaller Cotto,yes Cotto has a 2 fight deal with Top Rank so that means if he beats Martinez he will defend the title under Top Rank in the fall as that will be his last fight under Top Rank and then he will start working with Golden Boy again.We all know Cotto turned down 10 Million Dollars to fight Canelo right? believe me when I say this, Cotto is a smart man for waiting as Martinez is old and had surgery in the last year he aint the same fighter he once was and yes Cotto will probly make 15 Million or more if he gets the Canelo fight in 2015. Boxing is full of politics.
