Boys to Men The young men from Mountrush took to the playing - TopicsExpress

Boys to Men The young men from Mountrush took to the playing fields of Darver for their last ever U9 All County Blitz as a group. Needless to say there has been some vast improvements throughout the year in the playing ability and style of this team. These were probably best illustrated in the second game of the evening where the Seans lads took on the OMahonys with a final score of 0-3 to 1-0. Low scoring you may say, but in this game every score was crafted and the three points from Tomas, Nathan and Leon were minor works of art; working the ball from the back, across the middle, followed by a quick diagonal switch, a run round behind the man in possession to take the pass and a glorious finish. All of this whilst under intense pressure from a team that had a considerable size advantage but also some very skilful players. To counter, our boys were tackling like demons; catching, blocking and tackling, with everything at the back held together by an immense performance of strength and skill by Ronan. The work was undone by a late goal which deceived Adam in nets but to his eternal credit it was simply height that beat him on this occasion and he had pulled off some magnificent saves beforehand. In our other games against the Fechins and the Emmets we had some great displays from the younger guys on the team with scores from Daniel and Donnacha throughout the night coupled with a late cameo role by Olan. It must be remembered that of the 11 players on the night, 6 of these will still be eligible at this grade next year and some beyond. And so to the big lads; to Jamie, Leon, Cathal, Ronan and birthday boy Nathan - the core of the team. Ronan, Cathal and Jamie tackled for all they were worth, sometimes a little over zealous but never unfair, Leon always moving, looking, probing and Nathan - an old head on young shoulders, always calm in possession. For these 5 its no more U9s in Darver - its off to the big leagues - the double digits. Its been some journey from U6 to now but its been great fun. Thanks for football lads - you were brilliant!
