In my 20 years as a make up artist I have never understood this recurring experience. Customer: Wow! Your eyes look great! Can you put on me what you are wearing? Me: Id love to! Have a seat! Lets play with some color. Customer (as I get out a couple of colors in testers): I dont know if I can do mine like yours. I dont usually do much make up. Me: I am going to show you step by step. Its super easy and only takes a few minutes. Im even going to make you a cheat sheet to take home with you so youll remember the technique. Customer (looking at the 3 eye products I have laid out): Thats a whole lot of make up. I never wear that much at once. Can you go light handed? Me: Absolutely. We can do a daytime variation of the smoky eye I am wearing. Customer (after I have conservatively applied the product): Mine doesnt look as good as your smoky eye! I wear a lot of make up. It looks the way it does because I have carefully applied it. I will do my best to accommodate any customers wishes , but I promise you Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Fill in the Blank Blond Popstar, etc. All have on a lot of make up, too. If you want to look like a glamourpuss, you have to put on enough to achieve the look! Thats just the breaks!
