Boys will be boys! Have you heard this before? Its typically used to excuse bad behavior-- a suggestion that it is genetically encoded that the male members of the human species are compelled to do things they have no control over, and the implication is usually that the women around them are responsible for preventing the men from behaving poorly. Cover up! Dont drink at parties! Dont dance a certain way! So answer this-- is there anything anyone else could do, say, or wear that would force you to objectify them? To assault them? To do things that, in any other second of any other normal day, would seem abhorrent to you? No, because you always have a choice. And you can always choose to be better, and you can always choose to view and treat others with respect. The same is true for men around us, and its long overdue that we acknowledge that expectation.
