Brady Update: Brady is having his 9th surgery tomorrow (if Im counting correctly). He will have a tracheotomy to assist with his breathing when they remove the ventilator. He needs it while he works on getting strong enough to breathe on his own. He also will be getting what is called a Clagett window, which entails the removal of a rib, possibly two, in order to build an actual window into his chest cavity. This will allow them to remove the packing that is in his right chest cavity and repack it, and to look into it with a scope to see if the patch is continuing to adhere - and this has been consistently improving since they began the packing. It will also allow them to close up the original incision from the first surgery, which is the site that they continue to open to enter the chest. Its finally time for it to begin healing. This is a major surgery but we are feeling encouraged and confident that he will finally be moving forward and start the healing process. That alone is a major step. So far it has been a matter of survival. Now we can plan on it being a matter of getting well. I have had such difficulty in writing some of the updates because I didnt know how to write something positive for you. I dont have that problem tonight. Brady is doing well with no crises in at least 5 days. That is an amazing improvement! We are all so eager to see that smile of his. I have received cards, letters and even donations for his benefit fund from some of you - and not one of you people even knew that Brady existed before this time. Some of YOU I didnt even know existed before this! I cannot find the words to explain how that makes me feel. Its amazingly filling. It makes me literally swoon. When I say it drops me to my knees I mean it. I thank God every day for him and for you. I want to thank each and every one of you who look for these updates and are so genuinely concerned for our boy. My heart feels like it literally swells with love and appreciation and thankfulness for all of you. Thank you - those words are just not big enough but its all that I know. One of us will certainly post an update after tomorrows surgery to let you know how he fares through it. Please know that you are our encouragement, you carry us, you hold us up when we are feeling desperately down. Thank you for all of that and more. There is no way we can repay you. But - we do ask that you continue your prayers and good wishes for Brady. He has so far to go. ♥
