Bravo to the author. I feel the same way. The images were racist, offensive and intended to bully Muslims. Having said this, I dont condone the violence and vigorously condemn. No one should be killed because of words and pictures--no matter how offensive they are. Otherwise, David Duke shouldve been lynched ages ago. While I support the right to be racist, Islamophobic bullies, I dont feel the need to defend the particular speech in question. While the magazine has mocked Jewish leaders and Christian leaders, I have seen no image that has even come anywhere near the offensiveness of the prophet cartoons. Has the magazine ever depicted the pope-much less Jesus--naked, with his arse in the air with fluid dripping from his penis? No. If you have found a cartoon equally bigoted towards another faith in recent history...do bring it to my attention. Free speech is important to me. But so is respecting other peoples religious beliefs even when I dont accept them. Being a racist bigot doesnt make you a hero...even if you are killed because you are a racist bigot. Awaiting the stampede of protests from my friends who disagree.
