Breaking News: Hurriyat Conference commits suicide The Piece is a work of fiction Hurriyat Conference, a Chinese mobile repairing shop in Srinagar’s Nowhata district was closed after its owner Sheikh Mao committed suicide. Family sources say Moa took the tragic step after facing continuous losses in business. Mao, a veteran in mobile repairing, had started his shop in 1990s but, according to market analysts, was running into losses after many beginners in mobile repairing started naming their shops as Hurriyat Conference. Moa, according to family sources, was on medication after being diagnosed of clinical stagnation. “Moa had applied for registration of the name [Hurriyat Conference] as trademark in Trade Marks Registry but the appeal was rejected when it was found that the name was already registered ,” an employee of Moa said. “Mao’s business was running smoothly until people started using his shop name. It was too difficult for consumers to locate the real Hurriyat when there were so many Hurriyats around,” Chetan Bhagat, a market analyst said. “People came with many names like Hurriyat Conference (M), Hurriyat Conference (G), Hurriyat Conference (Y), Hurriyat Conference (K), Hurriyat Conference (O); thus affecting the business of Mao’s Hurriyat,” he added. A survey, conducted by an independent newspaper, found there were around 420 shops named Hurriyat in and around Srinagar.
