Breaking News: Maines Unemployment Rate Has Dropped Down to 5.9 Percent. The unemployment rate was over 8% near the time Governor LePage took office. Under Governor LePage over 16,000 new private sector jobs have been created. Maines unemployment rate is now significantly below the national average and the average in New England. Also, just this week, the Dept of Labor in Maine announced the states job bank now has 7,500 jobs currently open waiting for employees. Thats 7,500 more jobs in Maine waiting to be filled.
