Breaking News!!! PDP Gov’ship Primaries may not hold in A’Ibom today … as Aspirants plan showdown on Akpabio RADAR online has gathered from authoritative sources that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) governorship primaries scheduled today nationwide may not take place in Akwa Ibom state, after all, if the issue of fake delegates’ list is not addressed. Yesterday, RADAR online reported of a planned meeting of all the Aspirants exception of Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel who is perceived to be anointed by Governor Godswill Akpabio. The meeting took place successfully at the Shelter Afrique residence of former Governor Victor Attah in Uyo and over 28 PDP governorship aspirants attended, Bishop Samuel Akpan absent on permission, while Mr. Udom Emmanuel was not invited. They could not, however, get a consensus candidate from among themselves but far-reaching positions were taken. In the meeting, RADAR online learnt that Obong Attah expressed worry over the fate of PDP in the forthcoming general election in respect to the irregularities and fraudulent way the party primaries are conducted in the state which have made several supporters of the party to decamp to opposition parties. Attah, who is a founding member of the party and a Board of Trustee member was said to have advised the aspirants to conduct themselves in a manner that would not affect the peaceful conduct of the exercise in the state. RADAR online reliably learnt that the aspirants later moved to the Shelter Afrique residence of Barr Effiong Abia where major decisions were taken, including to insist that: no adhoc delegate should be allowed to vote since the delegates’ lists are in dispute. That, only statutory delegates of the party who are the elected executive members should vote. RADAR online further learnt that the aspirants resolved to make sure that governor Godswill Akpabio who is not a governorship aspirant but a delegate do not exercise overwhelming power over them at the Uyo Township Stadium venue of the primaries. We learnt that the aspirants agreed to drive in two Coastal Buses to the venue while their personal cars follow them behind in a convoy. Other decisions include that nobody will be allowed to drive his/her car into the venue including the governor else, everybody will also drive into the venue. Before the primaries commence, all the aspirants will go into the venue to ensure that no unauthorised person is allowed to hang or hide anywhere in the venue. Our sources, who are leading PDP governorship aspirants hinted that if these conditions are not adhere to by governor Akpabio, state PDP leadership and the National Electoral Panel that the primary will not be allowed to hold today. However, RADAR online gathered that the state government has perfected plans to prevent select local newspapers in Akwa Ibom state which it perceived as ‘opposition newspapers’, from covering the Primary. RADAR online learnt last night that the Personal Assistant to Governor Godswill Akpabio on Media, Mr. Essien Ndueso was assigned with the task of accreditation of Newspapers that would be allowed to cover the primaries with specific instruction not to allow INSIGHT, RADAR, THE INK, GUIDE, GLOBAL CONCORD, GLOBAL POST, among the perceived anti-government Newspapers to enter the venue of the primaries. But, when RADAR online put a call through to Mr. Ndueso last night, he denied the report, saying that he would get back to RADAR after discussing with the state PDP chairman, Mr. Paul Ekpo on RADAR’s accreditation, but before filing this report, Essien Ndueso is yet to get back to RADAR.
