Breastfeeding tip: Remember that though we trust in our bodies and in nature some breastfeeding difficulties are common...And it can be uncomfortable to down right painful when you breastfeed for the first time (so nothing is wrong with you!! your are a great mama for feeding your little babe) The biggest question for a new mama is AM I PRODUCING ENOUGH MILK?? If you are eating well (more calories than growing a baby in your belly!!), drinking enough fluid (1/2 gallon of fluids), and allowing baby to feed often it is rare that you would not be making enough. But your provider can support that with weighing the baby and you can tell by how many times you change that little one (6-8 wet diapers, along with some poopy is a good gauge). Call your pediatrician, lactation consultant, or midwife if you need reassurance, and support. Herbs that can help with increasing supply -- our friend marshmallow root, alfalfa, blessed thistle, dandelion root and leaves, milky oats (aka oatmeal), nettle, red raspberry, and slippery elm bark.
