Bridget Christie wins best comedy show at Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards Bridget Christie has won the best comedy show prize at this year’s Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards. She won for her show A Bic for Her, which has been running at the Stand Comedy Club. Christie was announced the winner at a ceremony held today in Edinburgh, hosted by Steve Coogan. Accepting her prize, Christie said: “Thanks to all my fellow nominees you are all amazing…I’d also like to thank all the other female comics who are up here this year, who weren’t all on the list, and did incredible shows. I’d like to accept this on behalf of all of us.” Best newcomer was given to John Kearns for his show Sight Gags and Perverts at the Voodoo Rooms. He said: “I’ve been doing the free fringe since 2008 and if it wasn’t for the free fringe I wouldn’t be able to come up to Edinburgh. “If there are people who have seen me do this, without any representation, no PR – I did it all myself with friends – who are just going to come up here and do it, then that means a lot to me.” Meanwhile Adrienne Truscott won the panel prize for her show Asking for It, running at Bob’s Bookshop. Truscott, who also performs as part of duo the Wau Wau Sisters, raised money through community fundraising website Kickstarter to bring her solo act to the festival. Tania Harrison, who chaired the panel of judges and is head of arts and comedy at promoter Festival Republic, said it was a “brave, brutal, bold and brilliant” show. She added: “This is a comedy show about rape for which, it succinctly says, it has been a big year… It is certainly one to make you think. It’s been talked about so much that there have even been discussion groups after the show. It is one that boldly…embodies the spirit of the fringe.”
