Bridging the Gap: Facilitating Student-Centered Learning Call for Participants The Department of English & Humanities, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, in partnership with the US Embassy, Dhaka is organizing a day-long workshop titled Bridging the Gap: Facilitating Student-Centered Learning. This workshop will be held at its main campus in Dhanmondi on November 1, 2014. Participants are expected to attend three different hour-long workshops by visiting English Language Fellows affiliated with the US Embassy: Ms. Christina Torres, Ms. Jimalee Sowell, Ms. Kathy Green, and Ms. Maggie Espino. Participants are invited from public and private universities. Attendees from each institution should include both teachers of foundation English language courses and students intending to make teaching a career. This workshop aims to foster dialogue among these teachers of English language and students. In this spirit, we are asking that participants be prepared to actively engage in the activities during the workshop. The workshop will include: A. A 60-minute plenary talk about student-centered teaching Topics will include: · Myths about student-centered teaching · Student-centered learning in large classes · Student-centered learning for beginners · Student-centered learning for mixed level classrooms B. 60-minute sessions repeated 3 times for the rotating participants with 10 minute breaks in between each session time. The sessions will include the following skills: · Writing · Speaking · Reading · Grammar Certificates will be distributed to participants. Pre-registration required.
