Thanks Ahmed. ++++++++++ Ahmad Rehab has written: I would like to challenge my fellow Americans to watch the following clip from a North Korean news channel and not laugh. In a country where there is a total market grip on the news by one perspective, it is not far-fetched that viewers be told that they are the darlings of the world cup in Brazil whereas in reality they never even qualified. And that Brazil is fawning over their dear leader as he beams over Rio di Janeiro, whereas he never left home. For us Americans, this is pretty hilarious. Poor little naiive brainwashed North Koreans. What a ludicrous and pathetic place. Cue the SNL skits. We here in the land of freedoms gawk at such primitive propaganda techniques. But wait, before you laugh. Consider that when it comes to Israel/Palestine, you are in many ways no different than that North Korean. Suddenly this clip is but a sad reflection of our own image. Behold the self-deceiving local fools who never get out to see what the facts look like on the other end of the cable line. 4 Palestinian children playing on the beach are bombed to death today, you may be told about it, briefly, and probably without images - or you may never get to know. You may or may not be told that it is NOT an entirely abnormal occurrence for Palestinians under occupation. And when you are told - IF you are told - you will be told as if it were an act of nature, perhaps lightening or a Tsunami. Not a war plane that you paid for, playing a real life video game. 4 Palestinians died today, not 4 Palestinian children murdered today by your tax dollars. What you will be coaxed into doing however, one newscast after another, one OpEd after another, one documentary, film, interview, and book after another is to shiver and shudder for the dangerous Palestinian existential threat to Israels existence. For they are the island of calm in the oasis of madness, they are our eternal ally with whom there is an unshakable bond, an unquestionable commitment regardless of what they do to others, themselves, or even to us. You and I just footed a 351 Million dollar bill for the iron dome defense shield Israel is now experimenting with around Gaza, etc. Well complain about the tuition hikes back home, but wont every hear a discussion about the billions we are forced to send to foreign war machines who kill children and occupy lands. And as we pay the perpetrator to vanquish the victim, we beat the drums of victimhood for the perpetrator in a disgraceful and unbelievable display of propaganda fit for North Korea, flipping the script and hoping to get by in full view of the facts - and mostly do. (Diane Sawyer was but one extreme and controversial example, but the subtle are many). Dont laugh at the unbelievable stupidity of this North Korean video. My fellow Americans, cry for yourselves. At least they live behind an informational iron curtain and are ruled by an iron fist. Whats our excuse with all the freedoms we got? That we could be duped so badly given this advantage is nothing short of splendid on the part of the propagandists and tragic on our part as audiences and consumers of news. Wake up and seek the facts for yourselves. Its your country, its your values, its your conscience, and if all that doesnt matter - its your money.
