Bringing it all back home... Tonight, Saturday 8th November, at 7.30pm, and as part of Leeds University Unions 75th anniversary celebrations, Ill be bringing my one man show, The Adventures of AK, to Leeds University Refectory. This is, of course, the very same venue into which I booked all the bands, and ran the big concerts between 1980 and 1982. It will be hugely emotional, and special, for me to return there as a performer. The word legendary is routinely misappropriated, but the dear old Refec truly deserves that accolade, having been the location for The Whos 1970 Live At Leeds recording, one of the Rolling Stones - ahem - farewell gigs in March 1971, and two shows on one night by Bob Marley & The Wailers in 1976. Just about every major band or artist of the last 45 years played, at some time, in the Refec. Standards may be judged to have slipped somewhat this evening, but I hope to see lots of you there. Tickets will be available on the door and the gig is open to the public, of course. (I scrapped that students only nonsense during my benign dictatorship). Ill be giving special and extended emphasis tonight to the rock & roll history of Leeds University. The black & white photo here shows Pete Townshend, on stage in the Refec, during The Whos original Live At Leeds concert, 14th February 1970.
