Brisbane is in the middle of enduring its warmest week this late in the season on record. Unseasonably warm conditions have been filtering across Queenslands southeast due to a quasi-stationary high pressure system over the Tasman Sea. While this high led to cooler and showery conditions over the last week on the Queensland Coast, it caused clear skies and northerly winds over the interior and kept cold fronts well south. This allowed heat to build, and has finally made its way over the region. Between Friday last week and Thursday this week, the city will average more than 26.5 degrees, unprecedented for this late in autumn since records began over 120 years ago. This included a stunning 28.4 degrees on Sunday, the warmest day this late in the season in twelve years, and more typical of late summer or early autumn. The unusually warm weather means people will be flocking to the beach, especially with water temperatures still sitting in the mid 20s. Surfers will particularly enjoy tomorrow as swell increases, creating ideal surfing conditions on some beaches. The weather conditions will also create fantastic conditions to kick off the first State of Origin this Wednesday. After a top of 27 degrees, the mercury will sit close to 21 degrees near kickoff with dry conditions expected all evening. Brisbanes run of heat will finally come to an end from about Friday as showery conditions develop. The weekend will be quite a contrast from the last, with showers expected and temperatures up to five degrees cooler, although these will be welcomed after another dry month. - Weatherzone © Weatherzone 2014
